The short version: Nosce is built to keep most data on your device. There are no analytics SDKs, no advertising, no third-party trackers, and nothing is ever sold or shared with data brokers. The only feature that syncs pact data off your device is optional Shared Pacts, which uses Nosce's server so two people can keep one agreement together.

1. What stays on your device

Nearly everything Nosce knows about you lives only on your iPhone, in the app's local database. This includes your Notices and Pacts, your habits, tasks and focus slots, your streaks and completion history, your earned-reprieve balance, and your settings.

Your app selections (the apps a Notice or Pact watches) are stored as Apple's opaque Screen Time tokens. Because of how iOS works, Nosce cannot see the names of the apps you choose, your usage numbers, or your activity — only iOS evaluates those, on your device, and tells the app when a threshold is crossed.

2. Screen Time & notifications permissions

Nosce asks for two iOS permissions:

You can revoke either permission at any time in the iOS Settings app.

3. Weekly Reflection (on your device)

The weekly Reflection feature writes its short summary entirely on your device, from data already stored there — aggregate counts and timings such as how many notices fired and at what hours, and which habits held. Nothing is sent off your device to generate it, and it never contains the names of the apps you watch, the contents of any message, or anything iOS does not permit the app to see.

4. Shared Pacts (optional, uses Nosce's server)

A Shared Pact is an optional feature where you and one other person commit to limits together. It works through Nosce's server at trynosce.com, hosted on Cloudflare Pages Functions with a Cloudflare D1 database. If you never create or join a Shared Pact, this server sync is not used.

What Nosce stores for a Shared Pact:

What Nosce does not store for Shared Pacts:

Your phone decides locally whether your side was kept or missed, then sends the Shared Pact result, chosen app label, daily cap, Pact minutes, estimated all-apps screen time, and your Shared Pact display profile. This sharing is part of Shared Pacts, so invite only someone you want to share those pact-specific details with. Anyone with a valid invite link can preview the Shared Pact invite before joining, so treat invite links as private and send them only to the person you want to invite.

Nosce uses a local member ID and member secret to sync each person's side of a Shared Pact. The member secret is stored on your device and sent to Nosce's server only in Shared Pact request headers; Nosce stores a hash of that secret in its database. Nosce sends Shared Pact suspension alerts through Apple's Push Notification service and stores the destination token only for that delivery. Cloudflare may process standard technical request data, such as IP address, request time, and user agent, to provide hosting, security, and reliability for the server.

5. Subscriptions

If Nosce offers a paid subscription, purchases are processed by Apple via the App Store (StoreKit). Nosce receives your subscription status from Apple to unlock features; it never sees or stores your payment details. Manage or cancel a subscription in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions.

6. What Nosce does not do

7. Deleting your data

Because most on-device data is stored only in the app, deleting Nosce from your iPhone removes it. For Shared Pacts, deleting or leaving the pact in the app updates the server so the pact is no longer active. To request removal of Shared Pact server data, email us and we'll help.

8. Children

Nosce is intended for the person installing it on their own device. It is not a parental-control product and is not directed at children under 13.

9. Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects how your data is handled, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
